As outlined in the 2025 Budget, this credit has been increased to €1,000 per person for 2024 and 2025, with jointly assessed couples now eligible for up to €2,000 per year.

Parents paying rent for children attending university can also claim the Rent Tax Credit—up to €500 per parent for 2022 and 2023 and up to €1,000 per parent for 2024 and 2025. For rent paid on behalf of a qualifying child, neither the child nor the individual can be related to the landlord.
You may also qualify for this credit if you rent private accommodation to support your work needs. For instance, someone from Donegal who rents in Dublin for work could be eligible.
